VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION OVERVIEW

This is a brief description of the ten training modules:

Meeting the Challenge
Learn about some of the emotions and circumstances experienced by women who seek abortion.

Biblical Foundations

Learn about the biblical roots of pregnancy care ministry.  Learn about the biblical role of fathers.
Learn about the ways that abortion impacts men.  Learn about the characteristics of true love, the
benefits and blessings that flow from marriage, and how forgiveness and reconciliation apply to the
daily ministry at Hope Women's Centers.
The Client
Who is she?  What is she thinking?  What is she feeling?  Why is she considering abortion?  Who are the people in her life who are influencing her?  What kind of pressure is she facing?  How can we help?
Caring Help
What does it take to qualify as a 'caring helper'?  Learn about the basic principles of communication, practice the helping skills in role plays and interactive learning gamrs.  Talk about the importance of confidentiality.
The Good News
Learn about the importance of evangelism in the pregnancy center.  Discuss the obstacles to evangelism and how our postmodern culture affects the way evangelism is carried out.  Explore the steps to follow/pitfalls to avoid in leading a client to saving faith in Jesus Christ.

The Center Visit
Study the flow-through of a typical client visit and learn how to respond to an initial client call.  Observe an intake interview with a client.
Abortion Education
Learn about the importance of sharing medically accurate and objective information about pregnancy, fetal development, and abortion. Learn about the basics of human reproduction and the important milestones of normal fetal development, and the most common surgical and chemical abortion procedures.  View a video about post-abortion stress syndrome and learn about the abortion-recovery program that is offered at Hope.
Positive Options
Learn about positive alternatives to abortion, and see how to present these alternatives to the abortion-minded client.
Special Issues
This is a brief overview of special issues that are confronted in the counseling room: abstinence, STDs, domestic abuse, rape, and referrals.

Servanthood
See how the pregnancy care center ministry fits into the ministry of the church in today's world.
