HISTORY OF HOPE

We have been helping women in unplanned pregnancies for more than twenty years.

Here are a few highlights of Hope's History:

August 1985 – a group of concerned Broward County leaders, including Dr. D. James Kennedy, Dr. O. S. Hawkins, and Dr. Frank Wright, meets to discuss the possibilities of opening a faith-based crisis pregnancy care center in Ft. Lauderdale.

February 1987 – A Woman’s Pregnancy Center opens in a small storefront office on East Commercial Boulevard in Ft. Lauderdale.

January 1990 – a group of Hollywood pastors, including Dr. Bill Billingsley, Rev. Bud McCord, and Dr. Paul B. Fowler, sees a need for a crisis pregnancy care center in south Broward County; a steering committee is formed.

June 1991 – The Crisis Pregnancy Center of Davie opens a small storefront office on Davie Road, near the central campus of Broward Community College.

1995 – after working together to provide crisis pregnancy care services in Broward, the two organizations merge to provide a stronger presence under a united front and choose “Hope Pregnancy Centers, Inc.” as the name of the new, expanded ministry.

1997 – Hope opens a center in Miramar to better serve the needs of those in pregnancy-related crises in southwestern Broward County.

1999 – the crisis pregnancy care center portion of the Davie center is moved to a more highly visible location on University Drive in order to attract more clients, becoming the 4th location operating in Broward County under Hope’s auspices; the Davie Road location becomes the home of the Administrative Offices, the Hope For Tomorrow Abstinence Offices, and the Hope Restored post-abortion program.

2001 – Hope opens its 5th location in Broward County in Pompano Beach

2003 – Hope’s 6th location opens in August in North Lauderdale, extending services to the highly populated northwest Broward cities of Coral Springs, Margate, Tamarac, and North Lauderdale.

2005 – Hope adds Mobile Ministry in August, Ultrasound Ministry in September, and hosts the first Father/Daughter Purity Ball in November.

2006 – In cooperation with Focus on the Family's Option Ultrasound Project©, Hope receives two more ultrasound machines (for the Miramar and Davie Centers), a grant for training our nurses and sonographers, and a commitment for machines for our North Lauderdale and Pompano Centes when we have adequate staff trained to use them.

In response to suggestions from the Option Ultrasound Site Training Team, Hope's Board of Directors votes to add 5 medical staff positions, to explore the possibility of filing a dba '
Women's Centers' in order to attract more abortion-minded and abortion-vulnerable clients, and refurbishing certain centers to reflect a more professional, up-to-date image.

2007 - Another Option Ultrasound Project© grant provides an ultrasound machine for our North Lauderdale Center, relocated to Riverside Square at Kimberly Boulevard and Rock Island Road.  We mourn the passing of Dr. D. James Kennedy, one of the founding pastors of our ministry.
